{"id":327,"date":"2008-10-03T21:09:00","date_gmt":"2008-10-03T21:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/davetraynor.com\/wp2\/2008\/10\/03\/another-overlooked-story\/"},"modified":"2016-10-29T05:49:35","modified_gmt":"2016-10-29T05:49:35","slug":"another-overlooked-story","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/davetraynor.com\/wp2\/2008\/10\/03\/another-overlooked-story\/","title":{"rendered":"Another overlooked story"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As a follow-up to <a href=\"http:\/\/davetraynor.com\/wp2\/2008\/10\/02\/top-10-censored-news-stories\/\">my post yesterday<\/a> about the Top 10 censored stories of the year, comes this story about photojournalist <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/James_Nachtwey\">James Nachtwey<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/lh6.ggpht.com\/dave.traynor\/SOaJieAGS3I\/AAAAAAAAAQk\/hdKYMN3n9bk\/7B32F309-8321-434D-9C0C-8E1A6E7DE9DB.jpg?resize=140%2C157\" alt=\"7B32F309-8321-434D-9C0C-8E1A6E7DE9DB.jpg\" border=\"0\" width=\"140\" height=\"157\" align=\"right\" \/>He was a recipient in March 2007 of the TED prize (<a href=\"http:\/\/davetraynor.com\/wp2\/2007\/03\/11\/photographer-earns-ted-award\/\">see my earlier post<\/a>) and his wish was for help in breaking a news story in a way that demonstrates the power of news photography in the digital age.<\/p>\n<p>As it turns out (I&#8217;m late to this story, I guess) today, Oct. 3, is the day that bloggers and news sites around the world are going to help him get his wish. I&#8217;m happy to take part in spreading the word, even if I missed the whole build-up and suspense part of things.<\/p>\n<p>Nachtwey&#8217;s story is the growing threat of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.xdrtb.org\">XDRTB &#8211; Extreme Drug Resistant Tuberculosis<\/a>. Not that long ago, we thought TB was all-but-extinct. But it is making a terrifying comeback. Nachtwey used the $100,000 from the TED prize to build a website and document the ravages of this new pandemic.
