And I hope that you can too. You don&#8217;t have live in BC &#8212; the more people that pitch in and sign the petition, the better.<\/p>\n<p>My fellow Victorian, <a href=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/~r\/Darrenbarefoot\/~3\/461234526\/make-the-provincial-government-keep-their-promise-on-the-great-bear-rainforest.html\">Darren Barefoot<\/a> wrote about this campaign in <a href=\"http:\/\/feeds.feedburner.com\/~r\/Darrenbarefoot\/~3\/461234526\/make-the-provincial-government-keep-their-promise-on-the-great-bear-rainforest.html\">his blog<\/a> recently:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Great_Bear_Rainforest\">The Great Bear Rainforest<\/a> is a huge swath of the land\u2013the size of Austria\u2013on BC\u2019s central coast. It\u2019s home to three kinds of bears, six million migratory birds, 3000 genetically distinct salmon stocks and many species of plants unique to the region. Most importantly, it\u2019s the largest tract of intact coastal temperate rainforest left on Earth.<\/p>\n<p>As you may recall, there was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2006\/02\/06\/AR2006020601834.html\">a landmark agreement in 2006<\/a> among various stakeholders\u2013the provincial government, logging companies, First Nations and environmentalists. They agreed to a new approach to resource planning developed by an independent team of scientists, and committed to its implementation by March 31, 2009. If you do, you&#8217;ll get a nice little auto-responder from the environment minister, which will make you feel special.
